I've been away from blogging for quite some time now, because I've been overseas and Popcorn has been in the hospital.
It was a four-day trip to Bangkok, a short break from reality. Or at least that's what it was supposed to be. I found myself thinking about work more than concentrating on shopping and eating. Needless to say, the nights were sleepless in an unfamiliar bed, silly fears of things lurking in the dark (eh, scary hor. My bed was facing this huge-ass mirror), hurried showers (I hate opaque shower curtains).
It was a pretty enjoyable trip though; all the food and the shopping. Eating at my favourite roadside zi char stall and the ter kar peng (pig's trotters rice) in the alley fronting my hotel, the Japanese restaurant (<3 sashimi), the Chinese restaurant (looooove the xiao long baos) and the steamboat.
We spent most of our time in shopping centres and cabs. The weather was horrendous; it just kept raining and raining, trapping us in whatever shopping centre we happened to be in.
The food was fabulous. Daddy wanted to bring us to this fine dining place, but we kept putting it off and when we could finally go, he realised he didn't have any more pants and so we didn't go in the end.
The shopping was great too. All in all, I bought two pairs of heels, one of which is leather, a pair of really comfy flip-flops (but thinking about it now, I think the colours are rather odd...), a big leather bag (my most expensive buy), three pairs of jeans and about four tops. Oh, and a t-shirt for bee too. And I got my hair dyed and highlighted, and a very bad experience at some spa shop thingy.
No, I didn't go for a spa. Just a mani and a pedi.
Horrible experience.
Mummy chose to go to that particular shop. So okay, we went. But when I stepped in, I knew I wasn't gonna get anything of standard. For 400baht (appx. S$16.30), I got rather bad service. Yeah, I know, hey, what do you expect for that kinda price?
But still, I thought it was really shoddy. I've been to a proper nail salon before where my boss from my PR internship treated us to manicures, so I know what it's supposed to be like.
1) There was no colour palette for you to choose your desired colour from.
2) All their bottles of nail polish were careless strewn into this black plastic box. And the person serving me was so damned bloody impatient. I had to rummage through the entire box and she expected to make my selection like lightning.
3) That woman spilled water on me.
4) I chose the same colour for both my feet and hands. They ran out of nail polish after my feet were done, and some other woman expected me to pay 100baht for a change of colour.
5) The one giving me my manicure didn't shape my nail properly. Not that I'm being anal, but it was very obviously out of shape. I tried telling her, but all she did was make it worse. I had to take the nail file from her and rectify it myself. (I think she got pissed and asked the girl to finish my mani while she went to serve another customer.)
6) They didn't apply the top coat.
7) (not related to me) The woman serving my sister was very rough and made her finger bleed.
Very, very pissed off after the whole thing was over. At least there was delicious MK Steamboat after that.
Don't have any pictures to post for this trip. Daddy brought a camera but he was too busy holding our shopping to take any pictures. Nothing scenic either, unless your idea of scenery is row after row of shops selling lots and lots of stuff.
After coming back from Bangkok, I met bee the next day to check Popcorn out of the hospital. She now has a new screen (NO MORE DEAD PIXEL YAY) and the display brightness is just whoa. At the minimum display (before the screen goes completely dark), the brightness is what used to be half of the maximum it can go.
At the half point, the brightness is now equivalent to that of the display brightness at the max before Popcorn got sent to the hospital.
She also has had her palm rest AND keys replaced. Poor Popcorn used to have this cute little plaster on the right side cuz the plastic cracked and there was this unsightly hole. I didn't expect the keys to be changed as well. So now Popcorn looks brand new (on the inside)... and feels a little alien as well.
Maybe it's because I haven't used it for quite some time or maybe because the new keys aren't seasoned yet and is unfamiliar to my touch.
And I have found my new favourite burger place: Carl's Jr.
I've always wanted to try it out but looking at the prices, I'd always decide against it and go somewhere else to eat.
But afte exhausting my favourite places to dine at, bee and I went to Carl's Jr. I had the Western Bacon thingy together with the Beefy Chilli Cheese fries.
The burger was colossal (for me). And it was the single. For that particular burger, they have a double one as well. But it was like, the best burger EVER. It was a combination of onion rings, a beef patty and a few slices of bacon.
It took me quite some time to finish it, but I'm glad I did. It was really delicious. And the fries were great too. There was quite little cheese actually, but I guess they made up for it with the meat in the chilli sauce.
I'm DEFINITELY going back there again. Bee has challenged me to eat a double the next time round =.=
Anyway, it's getting late, and I should be getting to bed. I've spent Idunnohowlong typing this post and I'm running out of things to say.
There's still so much work left to be done!
Anyone going for the closing of the arts fest at Bedok Reservoir? XD
Oh, and,
